SANTA FE – House Bill 105, sponsored by Representative Kelly Fajardo (HD-7, Valencia County) passed the House floor Tuesday. The legislation would allow money currently sitting in the State Aviation Fund to be used for construction purposes.
“I am grateful to my colleagues in the House for passing this legislation with bipartisan support,” said Representative Fajardo. “This legislation has incredible potential for economic development in Belen and for all of New Mexico. Not only will it allow for improvements—like a much needed crosswind runway—at the Belen Municipal Airport, but it will also be beneficial to the Air Force. The Air Force would be able to utilize such a runway for training operations, allowing them to save money on fuel and to save time instead of taking test runs to Colorado.”
“I am proud to have brought this bill forward, and I know that it represents the needs of those in Valencia County,” continued Fajardo. “Additionally, it is beneficial to all New Mexicans, as the bill will move us toward economic growth and more jobs for our area.”
An identical bill, sponsored by Senator Michael Sanchez is making its way through the House. It is currently in House Appropriations and Finance Committee.
“This bipartisan support is an example of the great need for this type of legislation,” said Fajardo.
